Hello! My name is Amy McKenzie (née Gilmartin) and I’m a Glasgow-based theatremaker who makes work across Scotland.
I’ve been working in Scottish theatre for over a decade in a variety of creative and administrative roles. My creative practice intersects and often involves directing, dramaturgy, and producing.
Currently, I work as a Projects Producer for Playwrights’ Studio, Scotland, the nation's only arts organisation exclusively dedicated to the long-term support, development, and promotion of Scotland's playwrights. I am also studying for my MA in arts, festival and cultural management, with a particular interest in artistic management processes when working on new writing development.
I have assisted some of the best directors working in Scotland and I have an excellent track record of producing and directing small-scale productions. I’ve also been employed as a dramaturg and regularly work within new writing development processes.
In all my work, I am primarily interested in developing new writing and working directly with playwrights. I am drawn to work that reflects the complexities of being human and I believe theatre should be cathartic, political, entertaining, and thought-provoking. I strive to make work that is intimate, evocative, and innovative, and I work closely with playwrights to best develop their work from page to stage.
